The Legal Defense Fund of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was formed in 1940 by Thurgood Marshall, who went on to become the first African-America Supreme Court Justice in the US. As the legal arm of the NAACP, LDF is focused on racial equality and an inclusive society.
